SEO

Janet Miller wrote in Search Insider and gave us some great tips on how to give the most visibility to the content in our blog in order to achieve SEO success.

A blogger's dream is for his/her content to go viral and we do this with SEO strategies. In this article, Janet gives us advice regarding our content

- behind a registration wall

- in our videos

- in Infographics

- in our PDFs

Janet counsels about the importance of setting up a XML Sitemap to enable the Search Engine robots to find that content and improve the SEO. Providing a transcript for your video on the same page in your blog or in the description section in YouTube is another way to give your content visibility.  Remember, the search engines robots cannot watch a video.

Just like videos, Infographics are also not read by the search engine robots and therefore additional work is needed if you want to use them for your SEO success.  So Janet advices the following:

“To optimize the infographic:

1.  Put each infographic on its own web page, complete with navigation.

2.  Add content to the page, such as the infographic title, description and some content about what is contained in the infographic.

3.  You can also link to a larger version. Use a smaller version on the web page, but then link to a larger version of the same image that is stand-alone.”

If you are using images, do not forget to pin it on Pinterest to get more links to your content.

Last, but not least, Janet talks about PDF documents as indexable by search engine robots and she gives us some steps to follow.

Setting up a WordPress site may scare the hell out of marketers and if you are one of them, go straight to the end of this article as I have a solution for you.

If you already have a Word Press site, does it not make sense to optimise it for your SEO Success?  After all, one of the main objectives of your site is for SEO purposes, isn’t it right?

In this article published by SEOMoz, the writer takes us through some basic features of a WordPress site and how one can optimize it for our SEO success.

Five Goals of The Post From SEOMoz For SEO Success:

  1. Clear up some confusion about WordPress terminology
  2. Explain that WordPress, being a dynamic CMS, is built on relationships (as in “relational database”) – and explain those relationships
  3. Show you some hands on, practical tips for setting up your WordPress site with an SEO focus
  4. Give you a few ways to cross check SEOmoz’s crawler diagnostics with other sources
  5. Get rid of that ‘ol Gary Coleman look!...

I encourage you to read more at Are You Setting Up WordPress For SEO Success?  While it may contain technical details, it has useful information such as what is the difference between a “Page” and a “Post”, “Category” and a “Tag” and what you can do or cannot do with each in your site.  Too basic?  Too complex?  See some of the information below that I have extracted from that article.

Pages vs. Posts

This is the second thing people either usually confuse, or have a hard time grasping. To your credit, I think it’s confusing that they’re put side by side in documentation, as if they’re somehow similar. They’re not at all!

post vs page

Note that pages and posts differ entirely in how they function.

  • A post is dated and “time-sensitive” and a page is not.
  • A post can belong to categories, tags, dates and authors and a page can not.
  • You can access a post from multiple pages – its category, tag, date or author.
  • A page is only accessible from where ever you link to it.

Some additional references about pages vs. posts:

Categories vs. Tags

Ah. Another sticky point for folks. Some may argue, but I think Yoast would agree. Categories are for your main 5-7 “buckets” of topics that your posts fall into. Tags are there to fine-tune categories, and are usually much more specific that categories.

categories vs tags

  • Also, you should NOT have a category that is the same as a tag or vice versa. Categories should all be unique from tags.
  • And, categories can have hierarchy and tags have no hierarchy…

SEO Success Without Having To Set Up A WordPress Site

Now, if truly setting up a WordPress site is completely out of your league or is simply something you’d rather not have to deal with, this could be a very wise decision that you have made. After all, we should know our strengths and weaknesses and we should focus on working with our strengths to progress our business.  The areas that we are weak in or are not interested in, we can always find another solution such as finding a “Done for you” solution” or outsourcing it to someone else.

Having your own website or blog is, in my view, essential to building your online reputation and brand.  It is what I call your “online store front”.  Many new marketers when told that they have to set up their own website, go and spend too much time or too much money trying to build one up themselves.  Even if they were to approach a service provider for help, here’s the problem: We do not know what we do not know.

I know of one lady who was charged a large sum of money and all she was given was a basic WordPress site with no plugins or other additional features.  When her service provider was challenged for charging what he charged for a basic WordPress site which she could have set up herself for free, he simply said “She did not asked for those additional features. I gave her what she asked for.”

Has this happened to you before?  Yes, I know we do not need to know everything about a car in order to buy one and drive it. This is true provided you do not have to build the car yourself.

So, if you need a website or a blog, with features that will accelerate your SEO Success, then I highly recommend that you get a blog from Empower Network.  This blogging platform is built by 2 very successful network marketers whose main aim for this platform is to help marketers make money.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation.

A business owner who has a blog or a website naturally wants prospects and customers to find him/her online.  This is where SEO comes in.

Research by SEO.com:

“When you begin a website redesign, always keep the search engines in mind. 62% of search users click a link on the first page of the search results. If they don’t immediately see what they need on that page, 41% of these users won’t bother going to page two. They will simply refine their keywords or switch search engines. 77% of search users still chose organic results over paid ads, so make sure that your website redesign can help propel you to the top of the rankings and appeals to your new customers.”

SEO Networker Training

Cutting Through The Misinformation Barriers

If you have gone through any training for Search Engine Optimization (SEO), such as I recently went through with SEO Networker, you will learn about finding the right keywords and to use those keywords to get your article, blog or video ranked on the first page of Google. This is critical for your article/video/website to be found since most people’s attention span is short in this day and age and they will not look further into pages 2 or 3 on a search result. To be successful, there are a number of other factors involved, but we will focus on finding the correct keywords in this article.

For example, when you search for a term, for example, “Safari holidays”, this is the first page of the search results on Google.

There are more than 10 pages of search results as you can see below.

Free SEO Tool

Google keyword tool

To find the correct keywords, one common free tool that they teach you how to use in the SEO Networker course is the Google keyword research tool and you can find this at https://adwords.google.com/select/keywordtoolexternal

The next screenshot below shows you what I find when I go into the tool and search for “Safari holidays”. You will have a list of keyword ideas (100 in this case), the competition, the number of global monthly searches and local monthly searches. To find more keywords using this tool, you can download this list and put the entire list back into the tool and run the search again, this will generate more keywords for you.
