What! Still No Leads *@!+//@??

Leads, Leads, Leads. That’s what we as marketers want!I was terribly excited. I was all ready to market my first affiliate product online. It was really easy. All I need to do is to market my affiliate link; you know the link that will send visitors to a web-page and when they click the link to purchase the product, I will have made a sale.It was done, I marketed my affiliate link and I waited. Ready to receive a ton of leads coming into my Aweber account.

And I waited.

One day passed – no leads….

Another passed – still no leads ….

After two more days, I decided to check my link; of course I should have done this earlier.

I was horrified to find that the link that was in my marketing emails led people to someone else’s account. Not mine!  I have been marketing on someone else’s behalf.

You may laugh at me … but let me tell that this mistake is so easily done.

He was wondering why he did not get any leads ….

Why … I was just on the phone with one of my downlines who complained that he has no leads even though he bought some solo ads (which is a form of paid advertising).

I checked his link and lo and behold, he has made the same mistake and his leads were going into a black hole.

So check your affiliate links carefully. Whether this is on your squeeze page, “Thank you” page, in your email series, the link below your youtube video or your social media sites.

Here’s another occasion where you should know your link well.

Have you ever psyched yourself up to call your leads and when finally you got someone on the phone, who did not shout at you or who did not hang up on you and you find yourself actually have a pleasant conversation with a prospect…. and that moment came and he asked you for a link to your website and …. you hmm and urghhh because you do not even know your own affiliate link?

You made an excuse and you managed to dig yourself out of that hole. Even though you may have got away that time, I know you do not feel good about that.

Just think about the number of times that you have lost sales because you stuck the wrong link out there or you could not tell someone where to go to find your sales link.

What I have said may sound elementary for many of you, but it is a mistake that is easy to make. Just saying.

I was in a shop the other day and enquired if I could buy their products online. “Oh yes you can” the sweet sales assistant proclaimed. So I asked for their website and she gave me the link and typed it into her computer…. but it showed up an error page.  What a shame!!

So, to generate leads from your marketing, just watch out for the links that you get from

- the company that you are marketing products for

- your upline who may be giving you an email swipe to send to your list

- affiliate marketing sites like clickbank

and make sure that you always test the links that you post everywhere – in your blog post, in your youtube channel, in your emails, in your tweets, in your Facebook posts, etc etc

The psychological challenges that these athletes face are not dissimilar to those faced by entrepreneurs.

Gwen Moran reported the views of JoAnn Dahlkoetter, a sports and performance psychologist in San Carlo, Calif. who coaches business leaders as well as five Olympic gold medalists. Her strategies for these athletes to overcome their mental obstacles also apply to her business clients as well.

Here are 3 strategies from JoAnn Dahlkoetter.

Challenge No. 1 – Negative thinking.

Slumps happen in athletics, business, and life. Start asking positive questions when you find yourself thinking: I’m not good enough. I can’t do this. Nothing is going right. Try: What’s good about this situation? What tools and resources do I need to move in the direction I want to go? Asking yourself better questions can help you move forward. Perhaps the big client you lost wasn’t the best fit anyway, and now you have the bandwidth to service a bigger, better customer. The more you actively turn around negative thinking, the easier it gets to see opportunities in adversity, Dahlkoetter says.

Challenge No. 2 – Exhaustion.

Just as athletes experience injuries and burnout, even the most resilient business owners can get fatigued from putting so much into their businesses. In addition to the sage advice of eating healthfully and getting enough sleep, Dahlkoetter says it’s critical to plan breaks ranging from a few hours where you disconnect to a few days away. If that’s not possible, take a “mental vacation.” Get to a place where you’ll be uninterrupted for five or 10 minutes. Breathe deeply and visualize yourself relaxing in a beautiful setting, like at the beach. Sound hokey? Research has long shown the positive effects of meditation on stress levels and health. In fact, a new study from the University of Washington found that regular meditation can increase concentration and make you more productive.

Challenge No. 3 – Fear.

During the Olympic games, a decade or more of preparation and training can lead to a single competition. “Treps have that kind of pressure when they encounter business-threatening obstacles or setbacks. When fear becomes paralyzing, you’ve got to go back to the basics” Dahlkoetter says.

“Remind yourself of the skills and talents that got you to the level of success where you are now,” she says. “Visualize yourself having the outcome you want over and over and over again. Then, focus on the moment. Don’t think about the past or worry about the future. Instead, determine the very next thing you have to do to get the outcome you want. If you’re worried about closing a big deal, make a list of the tasks that will give you the best possible advantage–studying competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, writing a killer proposal, polishing your presentation–and then tackle those to-dos one by one. Taking positive action is a strong way to dissolve fear”, she says.

So take time away from doing just the technical aspects for your business, and give yourself time to train your mindset. The psychological aspect of your character is just if not more important to carry you through the ups and downs of your journey as a successful entrepreneur.

Janet counsels about the importance of setting up a XML Sitemap to enable the Search Engine robots to find that content and improve the SEO. Providing a transcript for your video on the same page in your blog or in the description section in YouTube is another way to give your content visibility.  Remember, the search engines robots cannot watch a video.

Just like videos, Infographics are also not read by the search engine robots and therefore additional work is needed if you want to use them for your SEO success.  So Janet advices the following:

“To optimize the infographic:

1.  Put each infographic on its own web page, complete with navigation.

2.  Add content to the page, such as the infographic title, description and some content about what is contained in the infographic.

3.  You can also link to a larger version. Use a smaller version on the web page, but then link to a larger version of the same image that is stand-alone.”

If you are using images, do not forget to pin it on Pinterest to get more links to your content.

I encourage you to read more at Are You Setting Up WordPress For SEO Success?  While it may contain technical details, it has useful information such as what is the difference between a “Page” and a “Post”, “Category” and a “Tag” and what you can do or cannot do with each in your site.  Too basic?  Too complex?  See some of the information below that I have extracted from that article.

Pages vs. Posts

This is the second thing people either usually confuse, or have a hard time grasping. To your credit, I think it’s confusing that they’re put side by side in documentation, as if they’re somehow similar. They’re not at all!

Note that pages and posts differ entirely in how they function.

• A post is dated and “time-sensitive” and a page is not.
• A post can belong to categories, tags, dates and authors and a page can not.
• You can access a post from multiple pages – its category, tag, date or author.
• A page is only accessible from where ever you link to it.

Categories vs. Tags

Ah. Another sticky point for folks. Some may argue, but I think Yoast would agree. Categories are for your main 5-7 “buckets” of topics that your posts fall into. Tags are there to fine-tune categories, and are usually much more specific that categories.

• Also, you should NOT have a category that is the same as a tag or vice versa. Categories should all be unique from tags.
• And, categories can have hierarchy and tags have no hierarchy…

First of all. you need to write, write and write, in order words, make sure that you deliver the goods or content into my blog. Have a plan to become a Superstar Blogger and stay “insanely focused” and stick to my plan.

What you must become to blog to a Superstar Blogger personality

In order for visitors to enjoy reading my blog posts and keep coming back (so that you become a Superstar Blogger), you need to be a little insane (he likes this word “insane”), according to Patel. you need to be creative, take a stand, be controversial, be passionate, be thorough and be original. These are all good tips for one to stand out from the crowd, build a reputation and a following.

A Superstar Blogger is personal, interact with the readers, uses a variety of media and Social Media to spread one’s reputation. Watching the trends and using them to build content for one’s blog is another way to leverage news media and trends to make one’s blog go viral.  Use trending topics to find a common enemy or start a movement are risks worth taking to become a Superstar Blogger.

How to manufacture originality in your blog when the Superstar Blogger’s brain is all fried

Should our curiousity and relentless pursuit to be original and creative on a consistent basis run out of juice (even for a Superstar Blogger), here are six tips for breaking writer’s block from Darren Rowse:

Change your environment – If you are struggling to be creative in your office, jump up and work from the kitchen. Or move outside. Spend a couple days a week working from a café or restaurant that doesn’t mind you being there for a while. Or work with a friend.

Keep an idea journal – Whether you use a notebook and pencil or a free tool like Evernote, jot down ideas for content when ever inspiration hits you.

Just write – Sometimes to jolt your creative system you need to simply write without an agenda. This is a great way to empty your mind of thoughts and ideas that have been percolating for quite some time.

Read other bloggers – Become a master at reading a ton of other blogs. If you can manage hundreds a day, you will never be short of ideas. And remember to copy ideas down as you get them.

Figure out needs – Use your readers’ needs as the starting point for your blog posts. What problems are they facing? What questions are they asking?

Combine two unrelated ideas – A great exercise for generating ideas is to take two completely unrelated ideas and then combine them. For example, what kind of ideas can you create when you match blogging with Mt. Everest? Or what about digital marketing and The Simpsons? See how that works?…

Facebook launched Facebook Timeline in March 2012. Businesses need to understand that this new format has changed the way consumers experience their brands on Facebook.

Mashable commissioned a eye-tracking study which was conducted by EyeTrackShop,  They found that

- “participants spent less time looking at Wall posts and ads and more time looking at the cover photo on brands’ timelines than they did on their old Facebook Walls.”

- “The new Facebook Timeline limits the effective branding space, and the top portion of the page must be effectively utilized,”

Here’s some tips from this study to adopt for your Facebook Timeline marketing strategy:

1. Cover Photo. Cover Photo. Cover Photo – most critical for your Facebook Timeline 

Viewers on average spend the longest amount of time looking at your Cover Photo.

2. Facebook Timeline Content: last

After your Facebook Timeline Cover, the ads, navigation buttons and brand logos, your Timeline Content comes last.  

3. Facebook Likes. 

Facebook Likes, events and apps are now located in the top-and-center territory. This is more prominent and helps to get more attention.
